President and agent for Smith-Merritt Insurance, Inc.  (formerly, International Marine Insurance). In charge of all aspects of this agency.  Managing and hiring employees, marketing & advertising, accounting and writing property & casualty, yachts, workers compensation and many other types of insurance policies.

As a Captain, I have operated multi-million dollar yachts up to 110’; supervised major refits utilizing cost control. Experienced in all aspects of boat handling and safety, supervision of crew, guest relations, engineering and maintenance. Maintain a vast knowledge of hands-on engine room maintenance and repair: exterior and interior maintenance and repair, navigation and sport fishing for many different species of fish.

As Captain, I have cruised the US East coast, Bahamas, East & West Coasts of Mexico, Belize, Honduras, Panama, Venezuela, Costa Rica, Equator, Peru, Tahiti, Hawaii, New Zealand, Australia, South Africa, Senegal, Ivory Coast, Cape Verde Islands, US Virgin Islands, British Virgin Islands, St. Martin, Guadeloupe, Martinique, Grenada, Aruba, Dominican Republic, Cuba and Puerto Rico.

BOATING WORK HISTORY

1972 to 1980

Worked on various yachts and charter boats. Operated a commercial longline vessel. Feb. 1980 to April 1984 Captain of 53’ Hatteras, 60’ Hatteras, “The Hooker”. Cruising, fishing and diving the US East Coast, Bahamas, Caribbean and Panama. Responsible for day-to-day operations, maintenance, preparing for trips from Florida to Panama.

1984 to 1987

48′ G&S,    “The Hooker”. Captained and supervised the construction of yacht. Cruising, fishing and diving the US East Coast, Bahamas, Caribbean and Panama. Responsible for day-to-day operations, maintenance, preparing for trips from Florida to Panama.

1987 to 1990 48’ G&S “The Hooker”, 110’ Swiftship “The Madam.”  Captain.

Responsible for transatlantic and transpacific crossings. Responsible for up to 6 crewmembers. Supervised major refit on the 110’ yacht, including mechanical, electrical, plumbing, cosmetic and navigational equipment. Secured major sponsors for the fishing adventures.

April 1990 to May 1995

Captain of 48’ G&S Sportfisherman “The Sound Machine” Captain and supervised construction of yacht. Cruising, fishing and diving the US East Coast, Bahamas, Caribbean and Panama. Responsible for day-to-day operations, maintenance, preparing for trips from Florida to Panama.
