The Striped Bass named “Steel 64” was originally tagged in Perth Amboy, New Jersey on March 29, 2023, with tagging partner, Captain Greg DeMello aboard Andrea’s Toy Charters.
The fish was at large for 52 days when angler, Joseph Torres, recovered her on May 20, 2023, offshore City Island, Bronx, New York. Joseph recorded the tag number and released the fish.
After another 152 days at large, on October 19, 2023, Dennis McConnell and his son Leo were fishing offshore Point Pleasant, New Jersey when they recaptured “Steel 64” once again! They too recorded the tag number leaving it intact.
All anglers recorded the fish measuring 44 inches and in excellent condition.
Captain Greg and Joseph caught “Steel 64” using an artificial lure, while Dennis was fishing live bait.
